In 1984, the Evolution version (also known as “8221”) of the Turbo 2 arrived: there were 200 street cars developed to homologate the Maxi 5 Turbo for rally. They had an aluminum roof and improvements to the engine, suspension and aerodynamics. The special editions ended that same year with the 20 Renault 5 Maxi Turbo manufactured to be homologated for Group B, although only about 10 units were finished and the rest were used as spare parts. Its new 1527 cc engine was capable of developing almost 400 hp. Between 1982 and 1986, approximately 3000 units of the Turbo 2 were produced, a figure that makes it a rare and highly desired example.

Its World Rally debut was in 1980 at the Tour of Córcega, and just a year later he achieved in Montecarlo the first of his four World Rally victories. The other three were in Córcega (1982 and 1985) and in Portugal in 1986.

-With only 60.565 real kilometers, this 1985 Renault 5 Turbo 2 Evolution has a state of originality rarely seen. The engine, the suspensions and the cabin seem to have just left the factory. The front seats look like a luxury living room but still fulfill their sporty function perfectly.
