OVERVIEW
FULL DETAILS
To do this, it developed a sports version called 190 E 2.3-16. Cosworth’s experience was optimal to power the 190 M 102 2300cc 4-cylinder engine. The 16-valve alloy cylinder head with dual overhead camshafts and mechanically / electronically controlled gasoline injection increased power to 185 hp at 6200 rpm. This was combined with a five Getrag “dogleg” manual gearbox. The standard sports equipment was completed with a limited-slip differential and multi-link rear suspension.
In August 1983, three prototypes were in high demand on the Italian Nardo circuit. After 201 hours, two 190 2.3-16 had covered 50,000 kilometers with an average speed of 247 km / h and achieved three world records and nine international class records. The car debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 1983.
Despite numerous victories, the brand could not achieve the championship and in 1988 they decided to participate with an official team. In March 1989 the 190E 2.5-16 Evolution I was unveiled and exactly one year later the 190E 2.5-16 Evolution II showed its wildest profile. Only 502 cars were made. The engine was very different from the standard 2.5-16, with different capacity, bore and stroke. Compression was changed with a shorter stroke crankshaft, larger cylinders, and a new intake and exhaust system. It could accelerate up to 7800 rpm and delivered 235 hp.
It was equipped with Brembo brakes with 4-piston calipers and 17-inch wheels with 245/45 ZR17 tires. The suspension has been optimized and offers 3 adjustments that allow the height to be lowered from 15mm to 45mm through a switch located inside the car. The bodywork was modified to reduce wind resistance and increase downforce on the front and rear axles. The wheel arches were widened and a large rear spoiler added, thus achieving an aesthetic that made it one of the most valuable and desirable classic sports cars today. Inside were fitted as standard equipment leather sports seats, a Getrag gearbox with “dogleg” selector and an analog instrument whose numbers give us an idea of the performance.
The Evolution II was only available left hand drive in metallic Blue-Black paint. Despite its 1.340 kg, it is capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in 7.1 seconds, with a top speed of 155 mph. This car was manufactured in 1990 and its odometer shows only 10.166 real kilometers.
