The 24 Hours of Le Mans, one of the most demanding endurance races in the world, delivered an emotion-filled and surprising 2024 edition. The 93st edition of this iconic race saw an exhilarating finish with the victory of Ferrari No. 50, driven by Spaniard Miguel Molina, Italian Antonio Fuoco, and Dane Nicklas Nielsen. With a gap of just 14.222 seconds over their closest competitor, it was the narrowest margin since 2011.

The race, which remained thrilling throughout the 24 hours, took an unexpected turn two hours before the end due to rain. The Toyota of José María López, Kamui Kobayashi, and Nyck de Vries inherited the lead in a bizarre twist when the Ferrari No. 50 had to pit due to a poorly closed door. This situation seemed to dash Ferrari’s trio’s hopes, but a smart strategy with tires and fuel allowed the Prancing Horse team to secure their second consecutive victory, following a 58-year drought broken in 2023.

Earlier, a collision involving the Toyota of Sebastien Buemi, Brendon Hartley, and Ryo Hirakawa and the Ferrari of Alessandro Pier Guidi, James Calado, and Antonio Giovinazzi added more drama to an already intense edition. As usual, the race saw numerous accidents and safety car interventions, with the safety car on track for over four hours. With only 311 laps completed, this edition had the fewest laps since 1995, when there were 298.

In the main category, another Spaniard, Álex Palou, had a less than ideal performance with the Cadillac No. 2, which he shared with Earl Bamber and Alex Lynn, ultimately finishing in 7th place.

The 24 Hours of Le Mans was the fourth round of the World Endurance Championship (WEC). The championship-leading team, consisting of Kévin Estre, André Lotterer, and Laurens Vanthoor (Porsche), entered the race in France as leaders and, despite missing the podium, remain at the top of the standings.

This edition of Le Mans reaffirmed its reputation as one of the most unpredictable and exciting competitions in the world of motorsport, leaving fans eagerly anticipating the next edition.
